What is colonic splenic flexure?

The splenic flexure is the point where the colon bends to connect the transverse colon (running horizontally across the upper abdomen) to the descending colon (running down the left side of the abdomen). It is located near the spleen, which is why it is called the splenic flexure.

The colonic splenic flexure is prone to a variety of conditions that can cause pain or discomfort in the abdomen, including diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and colon cancer. Due to its location, pain or inflammation in the spleen can also cause discomfort in the colonic splenic flexure.

Diagnosing problems with the colonic splenic flexure often requires diagnostic tests such as a colonoscopy or CT scan. Treatment options depend on the underlying cause of the condition and may include medication, dietary changes, surgery, or other interventions.
